Falcons swept in non-conference action by Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Softball team was swept, 0-10 and 3-11, by the University of Scranton on Monday evening at the new Quinn Athletics Campus.
 
The Falcons are now 4-11 on the year after the non-conference double-header and have a 2-0 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) record.
 
Game 1 saw the Royals post four runs in the first, two in the second and four more in the fourth inning, while the Black and Yellow were held scoreless. Only freshman Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) and sophomore Danielle Krispin (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) record hits in the game, with Krispin's hit being a triple. Junior Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) started in the circle and received the loss in the decision, allowing 10 runs, four earned on eight hits in the 25 batters she faced. Young falls to 2-5 on the year.
 
Cedar Crest put up three runs in Game 2, coming in the fourth inning, as the Royals scored 11 runs, with six coming in the bottom of the fifth. Five Falcons reached base in the game, including junior Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) who drove in junior Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola) with a single, after Santaniello hit a triple. Freshman Stephanie Herpel (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) reached base after Horning, then sophomore Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) plated both Horning and Herpel for the Falcons second and third runs of the game. Pitcher and right fielder, Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) was the other Falcon to reach base in game two. Bilous made the start in Game 2, going 4.1 innings, allowing 11 earned runs on 10 hits of the 29 batters faced. Young entered the game and gave one hit before the game ended in the bottom of the fifth. Bilous received the loss, putting her at 3-3 this season.
 
Cedar Crest will return to action on Thursday, March 28 as they host Delaware Valley University in a non-conference double-header on Blaschak Field. First-pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
