Softball sweeps Delaware Valley with come-from-behind victory in Game 2

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Softball team swept Delaware Valley University in a non-conference double-header on Blaschak Field Thursday evening. The Falcons improve to 6-11 overall with two wins over the Aggies. Game 1 had the Black and Yellow win 10-7 and then complete the come-from-behind victory in Game 2, 8-7.

In the first game, the Black and Yellow jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then the Aggies tied it up in the top of the third. Cedar Crest would regain the lead and keep it, scoring a run in the third, two in the fourth and four more in the fifth inning to close out scoring, with a 10-4. Delaware Valley would add three runs in the seventh, but unable to overcome the deficit, as Cedar Crest claimed Game 1, 10-7.

Two different Falcons recorded three-hit games, Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and sophomore Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area). Horning went 3-for-4, scoring three times and drove in two RBIs and hit a double while Dalton also went 3-for-4 and plated two runs. These four Falcons each recorded two hits apiece, junior Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola), sophomores Danielle Krispin (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and Ashley Heller (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), and freshman Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge).

Starting in the circle was junior Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area), who won her third game of the season. Young pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on 14 hits, struck out one in the 33 batters faced. Freshman Lillian Boltz (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) entered the game to record the last out of the game, allowing one hit in the two batters she faced to end the game. Young received the win in the decision, putting her record at 3-5.

Game 2 did not start in favor of the Black and Yellow, trailing 1-6 heading into the third inning. Delaware Valley got more across in the top of the third, then the Falcons scored three runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game at 7-7. Cedar Crest would score the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning and hold on to it with a scoreless top of the seventh to take down the Aggies, 8-7.

Senior Aimee Sarboukh (South Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) went 3-for-3 with a double and brought in two RBIs while four other Falcons reached base with two hits: Sophomore Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), along with Santaniello, Dalton and VanBuskirk. Both Santaniello and Dalton cleared the fence with homeruns in the victory.

Junior Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area) was the Game 2 starter, pitching 1.1 innings, facing 12 batters and allowed six runs, all earned on three hits. Entering the game in relief was freshman Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), who pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, an earned run and two strikeouts in the 22 batters faced. Bilous earned the win in the decision, improving her record to 3-3.

The Falcons will be back on Blaschak Field on Saturday, March 30 when they host a Colonial States Athletic Conference double-header when Notre Dame of Maryland travels to Allentown. Game 1 of the double-header is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
