Box Score MEDIA, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Tennis squad defeated Penn State Brandywine 5-4 in a very close match at Clark Courts Wednesday evening.

The Falcons improve to 2-4 after the win over the Lions, going 1-2 in the doubles flight and 4-2 in singles action to claim the victory, 5-4.

First doubles fell 4-8 and third doubles fought hard but ultimately suffered a 7-9 loss. The team of
Ashley Wilkins (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) and
Mercedes Melo (Lehighton, Pa./Palmerton Area) took down their opponents at the second doubles in a back-and-forth set, 9-8 for the lone win in doubles action.

The Falcons started off singles with a victory as
Ashley Wilkins (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) defeated her opponent at sixth singles by default , putting the score at 2-2.
Melo suffered a loss at first singles after winning the first set 6-4 before dropping the next two sets 2-6, 2-6.
Yomari Salvador-Rivera (Reading, Pa./Reading Senior) got a win at second singles, as she suffered a 1-6 loss in the first set, then came back and won 6-4, 6-4 to claim the victory.

Maya Narasimhan (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) earned the Falcons another point at third singles, after winning both sets 7-5 and 6-1, putting Cedar Crest ahead 4-3. Penn State Brandywine would tie the match again at 4-4 after
Keely Shellhamer (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) suffered a loss at fourth singles, 6-7 and 3-6. The Falcons would come out on top with the win earned by
Andrea Abdale (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast ) at fifth singles, winning 6-3, 6-1.

Cedar Crest is back in action on Friday, March 29 when the Falcons host Rosemont College to open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action for the 2018-19 season. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM.
