Falcons win first win of 2019, split games on Day 2 in Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina --- The Cedar Crest College Softball squad split on Day 2 of the FastPitch Dreams Spring Classic at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. Cedar Crest is now 1-3 after two days down south.

Game 1 saw the Falcons claim their first victory of the season versus Wentworth Institute of Technology, a 6-3 win, giving Head Coach Kim Begley her first-collegiate win as a coach. Also garnering a first was freshman Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), who made her first collegiate start in the circle, first complete-game and first win of her career.

Three Falcons went 2-for-3 in the game: senior Aimee Sarboukh (South Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook), who added an RBI, freshman Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) who drove in four runs for the Black and Yellow, and freshman Stephanie Herpel (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), scoring two runs and bringing one in as well. Freshman Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola), sophomore Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and junior Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) also had base hits in the contest. Santaniello also scored two runs for the Black and Yellow.

Bilous pitched a complete game, allowing only one earned run, striking out two batters and walked two as well. Bilous earned her first and the team's first win of the season.

Cedar Crest suffered their third loss of the season in Game 2, falling 0-9 to Eastern Mennonite University in six innings. The Falcons had one runner reach base on an error and that would be it for the game.

Junior Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) got the start and threw for 4.0 innings, allowing six runs, all earned, and one strike out through 23 batters faced. Junior Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area) entered in relief and threw 1.1 innings allowing three runs, two earned, walked a batter and struck out one in the nine batters she faced. Young ultimately received the loss in the decision and puts her at 0-2 on the season.
