NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina --- The Cedar Crest College Softball team went 1-2 on their final day of the FastPitch Dreams Spring Classic at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex Wednesday. Cedar Crest will bring a 2-5 record back to Pennsylvania.
Game 1 saw the Falcons claim their second victory of the season versus Anna Maria College, a 19-3 win in five innings. Cedar Crest posted nine runs in the first, five in the second, one in third, three in the fourth and one more in the fifth for their 19 runs.
Freshman
Stephanie Herpel (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) went 4-for-5 with four RBIs a double and scored two runs of her own. Freshmen
Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola) and
Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) each contributed three hits each.
Santaniello went 3-for-3, with a double, drove in four runs and scored five as
Bilous went 3-for-5 and scored three runs. Also reaching base three times was senior
Aimee Sarboukh (South Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook), going 3-for-4, contributing three RBIs and touched home plate twice herself.
Bilous pitched a complete game, allowing three runs, one earned, striking out five batters and walked one as well.
Bilous earned her second and the team's second win of the season.
Cedar Crest suffered their fourth loss of the season in Game 2, falling 1-11 to Gwynedd Mercy University in five innings. The Falcons recorded three hits in the game, one by sophomore
Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area), one by freshman
Herpel and last hit was by freshman
Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge), who also scored the lone Cedar Crest run.
Junior
Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) got the start and threw for 1.1 innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, and one strike out through 12 batters faced.
Bilous entered in relief and threw 3.2 innings, allowing four earned runs and walked a batter in the 20 batters she faced.
Young ultimately received the loss in the decision and puts her at 0-3 on the season.
The Falcons played a third game today, falling to Grove City College 6-7, in a hard-fought battle. Grove City went up 0-2 before the Black and Yellow scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 2
nd. The Wolverines tacked on two more in the third to tie it up, then the Falcons plated one to take back to lead, 5-4. Grove City scored three in the top of the 5
th to push the score to 5-7. Cedar Crest had brought one run in during the bottom of the 7
th and left one stranded on base and keeping the score at its final, 6-7.
Bilous turned in a 3-for-4 performance, her second three-hit game of the day, with a double, two RBIs and scored a run. Three other Falcons recorded two hit performances:
Santaniello hit a double and plated a runner as
VanBuskirk had two base knocks and scored a run.
Sarboukh was the other Falcon to record two hits, one being a double, while scoring and driving home a run.
Starting in the circle against the Wolverines was junior
Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area). She threw 5.0 innings, facing 25 batters, allowed 7 runs, six earned and one strikeout.
Bilous entered the game in relief and threw 2.0 innings, giving up just two hits.
Pekurny received the loss, putting her record at 0-2 on the year.
Cedar Crest will head back to Allentown with an overall record of 2-5 and not play a game until Friday, March 15 when they travel to Widener University at 4:00 PM. The Falcons first home contest is scheduled for Monday, March 18 when King's College comes to Blaschak Field for a 3:00 PM start.
