Softball Splits with Saint Elizabeth in non-conference play

ALLENTOWN, Pa. ---  The Cedar Crest Softball team rebounded from Game 1 loss with a  come-from-behind victory in non-conference action versus the College of Saint Elizabeth on Wednesday evening. The Falcons are now 11-16 on the season after the 4-5 loss and 13-6 win over the Eagles.

The Falcons and Eagles played a scoreless inning before Saint Elizabeth score two in the second and one in the third to take a 0-3 lead over Cedar Crest. The Falcons would get two runs of their own in the bottom half of the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half, 2-4. The Eagles would answer back with a run of their own in the fifth inning, extending the lead to three runs, 2-5. Cedar Crest would try and rally late, but the run would fall short, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, reaching the final score, 4-5.

Junior Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola) turned in a 3-for-4 performance, scoring twice and driving in two RBIs, including a solo homerun for her fifth of the season. Freshman Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) was the other Falcon with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 in the game. Cedar Crest had five other athletes reach base with a hit to total their 10 hits in Game 1. The other two Falcons that drove in runs were sophomore Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) and freshman Stephanie Herpel (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).

Freshman Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) earned the start in the circle for Game 1, pitching a complete game with 11 hits, allowed five runs, four earned with a strikeout against the 36 batters faced. Bilous did receive the loss in the decision, putting her record at 6-5 overall.

Game 2 started in a similar fashion, seeing Saint Elizabeth scoring three runs before the Falcons were able to get on the board, trailing 0-3 heading into the bottom of the second inning. Cedar Crest scored three of their own to tie the game at 3-3 after two innings of action. Scoreless in the third and fourth, both squads would plate three runners each in the fifth inning, putting the score at 6-6. Keeping the Eagles off the board in the top of the sixth, Cedar Crest would plate seven runners in the bottom half of the sixth to take a 13-6 lead. The Black and Yellow would record the final three outs and defeat Saint Elizabeth 13-6 to split the doubleheader.

Santaniello would go 3-for-4 in Game 2 as well, this time driving in three RBIs and score two runs of her own. Four Falcons also reached base multiple times: Senior Aimee Sarboukh (South Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook), sophomore Ashley Heller (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), and freshmen Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) and Bilous. Sarboukh and Bilous each contributed three RBIs each and VanBuskirk plated a runner in game 2. Sophomore Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) had one base-knock that drove in two RBIs as sophomore Danielle Krispin (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) plated a runner for the Black and Yellow. Cedar Crest recorded 15 hits in the game with 13 runs.

Junior Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) got the ball to start Game 2, pitching 4.2 innings, giving up six runs, four earned, off of five hits and struck out three of the 23 batters she went up against. In the fifth inning, junior Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area) stepped in the circle for relief, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits in the nine batters faced. Pekurny would earn the victory, her first of the season, putting her overall record of 1-3.
