Falcons swept by Marywood in Non-Conference action

SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Softball team dropped a pair on non-conference games to Marywood University on Tuesday evening. The Falcons fall to 8-13 overall on the season after the double-header.

In Game 1, Marywood got on the board first with three runs in the second inning, before the Falcons scored three runs of their own in the top half of the third. The Black and Yellow fell one-runs short, as the Pacers walked-off 3-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Driving in the first run was junior Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), who grounded out to bring in the first run. Freshman Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) went 3-for-3 at the plate, and drove in the final two Falcon runs in the game. Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), Aimee Sarboukh (South Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) and Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola) all touched home plate and record a total of four hits between them.

Bilous pitched a complete game, 6.2 innings, before the Pacers claimed Game 1 with walk-off on a wild pitch. Bilous received the loss, putting her at 4-4 overall after allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits in the 29 batters faced.

Game 2 had the Pacers get ahead in the first frame before the Falcons took a one-run lead for a half-inning, 2-1. Marywood would answer with three runs in the bottom of the second to regain the lead, 2-4. Cedar Crest would have three more runners cross the plate in the next two innings to have the Falcons take the lead back briefly, 5-4, but Marywood would score three fourth-inning runs to take the lead and would keep it, 5-7. Both teams would add another run in the fifth inning, but the Pacers held on to the lead and Cedar Crest fell 6-8.

Seven Falcons reach base in Game 2, led by sophomore Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), who went 3-for-4, hit a double and scored twice as other sophomores Ashley Heller (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) each recorded two hits. Heller scored and drove in an RBI as Dalton also plated a runner and hit a double in the game. Bilous brought in the other Falcon runner to the plate on a fielder's choice.

Junior Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) started Game 2 for Cedar Crest and threw for 2.0 innings, facing 13 batters and allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits and walked four. Entering the game in relief was junior Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area), who pitched 4.0 innings, who also gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits in the 20 batters faced. Pekurny ends up with the loss in Game 2, putting her season record at 0-3.

The Falcons are set to travel to Radnor on Friday, April 5 to go up against Cabrini University in another non-conference double-header. First-pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
