Dalton Blasts two as Falcons split CSAC doubleheader with Keystone

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Softball squad split their Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader versus Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons move to 9-14 on the year and 5-1 in CSAC play after the 5-3 Game 1 victory and 6-9 loss in Game 2.
 
In Game 1, the Giants scored a run in the first and third innings to put the Black and Yellow into a 2-0 deficit. The Falcons would tie it up with one swing of the bat as Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) hit a single into right field that scored two to even the score, 2-2. The next inning, Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) to the Keystone pitcher yard to right-center field to give Cedar Crest the 3-2 lead. The Giants would tie the game with a homer of their own, 3-3, but in the bottom of the fifth inning, Dalton would clear the fences yet again. This time for a two-run homer run to left-center field to score the final runs of the game, giving the Falcons the 5-3 victory.
 
Dalton went 2-for-3 in the contest, with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the team. Five other Falcons reach on base hits, including the two-run single recorded by VanBuskirk. Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) also hit a double and scored a run in the game.
 
Getting the start was Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), who pitched 5.0 innings for the Black and Yellow, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits and two strikeouts. Entering the game in relief was Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area), who threw for 2.0 innings, striking out one and not allowing a hit in the final two innings of Game 1. Bilous earned the win, putting her at 5-4 and Young recorded her first save of the year.
 
Keystone came out swinging in Game 2, scoring one in the first, then three in the third and two more in the fourth before the Falcons would get on the board, trailing 0-6. Cedar Crest would score four runs in the fourth off of a two-run double to right-center field by Tremblay and a two run homerun by Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) to put the Black and Yellow down by just two runs, 4-6, heading to the fifth inning. Cutting the lead to one-run, Nicole Santaniello (Kissimmee, Fl./Osceola) singled in a run to put the score at 5-6 before the Giants would score three runs, one in the sixth, two in the sixth to have the Falcons trailing 5-9. Cedar Crest would add one in the bottom of the seventh inning off of a Horning double to center, 6-9,  which would ultimately be the final score.
 
Both Horning and Santaniello ended Game 2 going 3-for-4, Horning drove in three RBIs and scored once as Santaniello scored twice and plated on runner. Tremblay had a two-run double for her two RBIs and her lone hit in the game.
 
Cedar Crest had three pitchers see action in the game, starting with Young who was the Game 2 starter. She pitched 3.1 innings, allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits with a strikeout. Lillian Boltz (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) enter the game and threw 1.1 innings for the Black and Yellow, walking two batters in the five batters she faced. Bilous would be summoned and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing three runs, all earned, on six hits and a strikeout in the 12 batters she went up against. Young was dealt the loss, putting her record at 4-6 on the season.
Up next, the Falcons will play on Monday, April 8 when they travel to Widener University for a non-conference doubleheader. These games were originally scheduled for March 15 but were postponed due to weather. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM at the Widener Softball Field.
