Softball swept by Wilson on the road in CSAC play

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Softball team was swept by Wilson College, 0-8 and 1-11, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons fall to 14-21 overall and 6-4 in conference play.

Cedar Crest was no hit in Game 1 as the Phoenix scored seven runs in the first inning and added one in the bottom of the fifth to end the game, 0-8, in five innings. Junior Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area) started in the circle, only pitching 0.2 innings, before junior Kendra Pekurny (Kunkletown, PA/Palmerton Area) entered and threw for 3.1 innings. Young allowed seven runs, five earned, on four hits in the eight batters as Pekurny allowed one run on five hits in the 16 batters faced. Young receives the loss and falls to 5-9 on the year.

Game 2 started with Wilson scoring once in the first, two in the second, and then scored eight runs in the third to push the deficit to 0-11. The Falcons would score one run in the fifth inning off a single into center field, but that would be the only run the Black and Yellow would score in the 1-11 loss.

Freshman Delaney VanBuskirk (Bridgeville, Del./Woodbridge) was the lone Falcon to record a two-hit game, going 2-for-2 in the loss. Also reaching on base-hits was senior Aimee Sarboukh (South Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook), junior Dallas Horning (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and sophomore Patricia Dalton (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) to total the five hits recorded in the game. Sarboukh drove in the run that saw freshman Sophia Callari (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon), who pinch-ran for VanBuskirk, cross the plate for Cedar Crest in the fifth-inning

Getting the start in Game 2 was freshman Skyler Bilous (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), who threw for 2.2 innings, giving up 10 runs, eight earned, on seven hits in the 19 batters she faced. Pekurny entered in the third inning and faced 10 batters in the 1.1 innings she pitched, allowing one earned run on three hits in the game. Bilous received the loss, putting her record at 7-8 on the year.

The Falcons are back in action tomorrow, Thursday, April 25 when they host Clarks Summit on Senior Day and the final home games of the 2019 season. Cedar Crest will honor their two seniors between games 1 and 2 of the doubleheader. Game 1 is set to begin at 3:00 PM on Blaschak Field.
