Box Score AURORA, N.Y. --- The Cedar Crest College Soccer program shutout Wells College, 6-0, in their first road contest of the 2019 season on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons, now (3-1) on year, had themselves an afternoon on the pitch in Aurora, with four different scorers in the victory. Sophomore
Brittney Dunleavy (Auburn, Pa./Blue Mountain) was the one that got the Black and Yellow on the board first in the 20th minute with an assist by senior Kim Rosano. Freshman
Madison VanKirk (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy)Â beat the keeper in the 34th minute and scored her first-collegiate goal wearing the Black and Yellow to give them a 2-0 lead. Scoring in the 40th minute was sopohmoreÂ
Kaitlyn Kozdron (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township)Â with an assist credited to sophomore
Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) to finish the first half with a 3-0 lead.
"We had a little bit of a slow start today," stated
Head Coach Sarah Wolcott, "but once we settled in and had more patience we did well."
It took almost 30 minutes into the second half for the Falcons to post another goal on the scoreboard, coming from junior
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) with the helper coming from
Kozdron in the 75th minute.
Tennis would score just three minutes later in the 78th for her second of the game and sixth of the season. Scoring the sixth and final goal of the game was
Kozdron, for her second of the game, which was assisted by junior
Rebecca Fox (Olean, N.Y./Olean) in the 87th minute to put the final score at 6-0.
Coach Wolcott continued, "
Nyla Ngegba (Newcastle, DE/St. Georges Technical)Â and
Jordan Cicio (Wantage, N.J./High Point) showed a lot of heart. They did all of the little things well, set the tone for us, and made a big difference."
Cedar Crest dominated the statistical comparison, blasting 32 shots in the match with 23 of those shots going on goal. The Express managed to get off three shots with two of them going on the keeper. The Falcons defense did not allow Wells to take a penalty corner at all in the contest as the Black and Yellow earned nine.
Freshman
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove/Sachem North)Â faced two shots in the match and saved them both as she was able to record her second career shutout and second shutout of the season.
Makely's recorded also improved to (3-1) after earning the win this afternoon.
"I'm happy with our determination to raise our level of play throughout the match and with our result," concluded Coach Wolcott.Â
The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday, September 11 when they host New Jersey City University (NJCU) in a non-conference match. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 PM on the FalconPlex.
