RESULTS
SCRANTON, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College cross country team claimed the 2021 Colonial States Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon at McDade Park, marking the first title in program history.
"I'm really proud of this team," stated Head Coach
Alec Duncan. "The ladies have put in a lot of hard work this season and raced well throughout the year. It was great that we were able to cap things off with the conference championship. Our goal was to get as many of our runners in the top 20 as possible and we executed perfectly."
Cedar Crest tallied a team score of 48, followed by Clarks Summit (54), Cairn (63), Valley Forge (111), and Saint Elizabeth (116) in the top five. Notre Dame of Maryland University (148) and Bryn Athyn (150) were sixth and seventh, respectively, while Keystone and Rosemont failed to record a team score with less than five runners in the field.
The Falcons had five runners in the top 20, paced by freshman
Jonquil Loeffelholz (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome), who placed fourth with a time of 27:54.1. Following four spots behind Loeffelholz was junior
Lillie Jones (Wilmington, Del./DelCastle Technical), who finished eighth in a time of 31:11.6. Junior
Emily Kern (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) ran to a tenth-place finish with a time of 31:55.6. Junior
Saige Sterner (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area), freshman
Jess Simins (Phillipsburg, N.J. /Warren Tech), and sophomore
Carolyn Weiss (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) each earned top-20 finishes, placing 13
th, 17
th, and 19
th, respectively.
Juniors
Christina Alberici (Shelton, Conn./Shelton),
Joslyn Schwieterman (Portland, Maine/Baxter Academy), and
Carolina Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside Senior High School) closed out the runners in the field for Cedar Crest.
Loeffelholz earned First Team All-Conference honors while Kern, Jones, and Sterner each pick up Second Team All-Conference nods.
Duncan concluded by saying, "This has been an incredible group of student-athletes to work with, and I'm ecstatic that they get to bring Cedar Crest its first cross country CSAC Championship!"
The CSAC Champions will next run in the 2021 NCAA Division III Metro Region Championship hosted by Rowan University on Saturday, November 13 at Gloucester County DREAM Park. The meet is set to begin at 12:15 p.m.
