BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team posted its third straight victory with a 7-2 triumph over Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday afternoon in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match.
The Falcons (3-4 overall, 2-0 CSAC) began the day with a doubles sweep. Senior
Maya Narasimhan (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) teamed up with sophomore
Katherine Franzone () to defeat freshmen Thea Keal and Anais Connelly (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) by an 8-6 final. Junior
Sasha Singh (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) and sophomore
Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) picked up an 8-1 win at No. 2, while sophomore
Sam Henson (Waterbury, Conn./W.F. Keynor Technical) and
Brittany Schultz () took home the point at No. 3 doubles with an 8-1 victory.
Cedar Crest went onto pick up wins at five singles spots to seal the win. Narasimhan topped Keal 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot. Henson blanked sophomore Katherine Hyatt (Bryn Athyn, Pa.) by scores of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles while Schultz secured the No. 6 singles point with identical 6-2, 6-2 scores over freshman Jenna Hartshaw (Downington, Pa.).
The closest singles match came at the No. 4 spot between Spagnola and freshman Ava Fino (Harding, Pa.). Fino took the first set 6-3, but Spagnola evened the match with a 6-3 second set. With the overall match decided, the pair played a seven-point tiebreak in lieu of a third set to determine the winner with Spagnola coming out on top, 7-2.
Cedar Crest will next play host to Penn State Berks on Friday, April 8 at 4:00 p.m.
