ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Twelve different players scored for the Cedar Crest College lacrosse team in its 21-1 rout of Trinity Washington University on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex on Senior Day. Prior to the game, the program honored their four seniors
Abbey Mower (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional),
Kailyn Jones (Weatherly, Pa./Weatherly),
Emily Schoelier (Newton, N.J./Sussex County Technical), and
Ember Kriner (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey) in a special ceremony. The 21-goal output is the most goals in a game for the program since 2015.
The Falcons raced out to a fast start with 11 goals in the first quarter. Sophomore
Maddie Graham (Clayton, Del./Smyrna) opened the scoring with a goal just 1:13 into the contest. A minute later, Schoelier deposited one home off an assist from first-year
Kylah Demarest (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Township). Cedar Crest kept its offense going as first-year
Brooke Holley (Elkton, Md./Elkton) made it 3-0 with an unassisted marker just 39 seconds later. Demarest tallied her initial goal of the game with 11:25 on the clock and then she found Schoelier for a marker with 9:38 to play for the 5-0 advantage. Graham added her second of the game when Holley assisted the goal 23 seconds later. Schoelier capped her hat trick at the 8:01 mark on an unassisted tally. Jones got the next goal for and then she assisted on the hat trick goal for Graham to make it 9-0, which was then followed by tallies from junior
Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) and sophomore
Lauren Jackson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) to stretch the margin to 11-0 at the end of one.
The Falcons put two home in the second stanza. Sophomore
Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) netted her first goal of the season at the 11:13 mark while Schoelier fed a pass to sophomore
Abi Sipel (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) with 6:49 to play to send Cedar Crest into the half with a 13-0 advantage.
The home team began the third frame with back-to-back goals. Holley found senior Mower for her first career goal with 6:41 left while Sipel made it 15-0 with an unassisted tally with a tally at the 3:59 mark.
The Tigers got its lone goal of the game from first-year Na'kiya Butler (Washington, D.C.) with 1:38 remaining to cut the deficit to 14, 15-1.
Cedar Crest then closed the game on a 6-0 run over the remainder of the contest. Graham registered her fourth goal of the game with 10 seconds left in the third and then the Falcons scored five straight to start the fourth on markers from Sipel, first-year
Adriana Dias (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic), first-year
Nicole Guzman (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty), and two from Schoelier for the 21-1 final.
Schoelier paced the Falcons with six points on five goals and one assist. Graham followed with five points on four goals and a helper. Holley and Demarest each finished with three points while Jones was the last Cedar Crest player with a multiple-point effort with two.
Junior
Kayleigh Woomer (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) registered the win in goal for Cedar Crest, making five saves. Sophomore Keisha Cooper (Washington, D.C.) recorded 15 stops in the loss.
The Falcons recorded 22 ground balls in the victory. Sipel had a game-high six. Graham followed with four. Holley tallied three. Hinkle, Demarest, Schoelier, and Jones had two apiece while Jackson rounded out the category with one.
Cedar Crest also had nine caused turnovers. Graham and Schoelier each pitched in a pair while Jackson, Demarest, Sipel, Bilger, and Jones tallied one apiece.
The Falcons picked up 17 draw controls in the contest. Demarest led the way with a game-high seven. Graham and Jones had three each. Schoelier recorded two while Hinkle and Sipel closed the category each with one.
Cedar Crest (3-3 overall) will be idle for a week and returns to action on Saturday, April 15 at Keystone College for its CSAC opener in a 1:00 p.m. draw. Trinity Washington (0-6 overall) will also play on April 15 in a road contest at Centenary University.
