Tennis Falls to Cairn in Season Finale, 7-2

Box Score LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College tennis team ends their season after being defeated in a conference match by Cairn University, 7-2, on Friday afternoon.
 
The Highlanders began the day with a 2-1 start in doubles play. The Falcons' first doubles team of seniors Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) and Katherine Franzone (Mount Bethel, Pa./Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) fell to first-year Reagan Griffith (Doylestown, Pa.) and junior Ersy Neal (Wayne, Pa.), 8-1. Senior Megan Fiedler (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) and junior Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) were defeated by senior Rachel Campbell-Robertson (Richmond, Va.) and first-year Delaney Bouton (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.), 8-0 at the No. 2 spot. Junior Grace Nieman (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) and first-year Grace Huff (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) picked up the Falcons' first point of the day over senior Gabriella Hurst (Stevens, Pa.) and sophomore Tatiana Ipri (Mullica Hill, N.J.), 8-5, at third doubles.
 
Spagnola opened singles play for the Falcons' and fell to Griffith at the No. 1 spot in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Franzone was defeated by Neal at second singles (6-2, 6-1). Fiedler was taken down by Campbell-Robertson at the No. 3 spot (6-1, 6-0). O'Connor fell to Bouton at fourth singles, 6-0 and 6-1. Nieman picked up the second point for the Falcons by taking down Hurst in fifth singles (6-3, 6-3). Ipri defeated first-year Camber Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) 7-5 and 6-1 at the No. 6 slot.
 
The loss ends the season for Cedar Crest, who finished with a 1-12 overall (0-4 United East-Skye Division). Cairn University (7-1 overall, 4-0 United East-Skye Division) will host Penn College on Saturday, April 20 at 1:30 p.m. for their Senior Day.
