ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College track & field team finished seventh out of 13 teams at the Blue Jay Tune-Up on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Elizabethtown College. The Falcons tallied 26 team points.
In the 100-yard dash prelims, sophomore
Alyssa Maldonado (Delmar, Md./Parkland) placed 14
th with a time of 14.12 seconds. Junior
Krishana Brooks (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) followed and crossed the finish line in 14.45 seconds.
First-year
Keyara Harriston (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) was the lone representative for Cedar Crest in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 19.30 seconds, taking fifth.
The Falcons had four on the track for the 200-meter dash. First-year
Laila Stevenson (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) led the way with a seventh-place finish with a time of 28.68 seconds. Sophomore
Mel Val (Tracy City, Tenn./St. Andrew's Sewanee) clocked time of 29.81 seconds. Brooks came in behind Val (30.56 seconds). Sophomore
Emily Matoushek (Waymart, Pa./Forest City Regional) recorded a personal-best time of 30.79 seconds.
In the 800-meter event, sophomore
Giada Smith (Springtown, Pa./Palisades) finished 13
th, crossing the finish line in 2:48.02.
Seniors
Shayla Simek (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) and
Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) represented Cedar Crest in the 1500-meter run. Simek paced the Falcons and registered a time of 6:47.07 followed by Davis (6:59.19).
The Falcons had five participants in the discus throw. Senior
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) placed third with a mark of 36.75 meters. Classmate
Alana Connor (Manassas, Va./Charles J. Colgan) came in seventh with a throw of 32.51 meters. First-year
Caterina Catizone (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) tossed for a mark of 26.85 meters. Sophomore
Symarah Drey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and junior
Courtney Gibbons (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) rounded out the Cedar Crest throwers in the event with marks of 20.96 meters and 20.52 meters, respectively.
The Falcons had three participants record a mark in the hammer throw. Connor finished eighth with a throw of 38.62 meters. Bozen followed with a mark of 32.72 meters. Gibbons had a throw of 20.09 meters.
Cedar Crest had two top-ten finishers in the javelin. Bozen placed third with a mark of 31.78 meters. Catizone finished ninth with a throw of 25.18 meters. Drey rounded out the participants for the Falcons with a mark of 24.29 meters.
First-year
Kaitlyn Cohen (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) was the lone Falcon in the pole vault, taking fourth with a mark of 2.15 meters.
Cedar Crest had a pair in the shot put with Catizone placing ninth (9.63 meters) and Connor in 11
th (9.09 meters).
The Falcons will now turn their attention to the United East Conference Championships, which are slated to take place on May 2 and 3 at Keystone College.
