Two Program Records Fall For Track & Field at Muhlenberg Invitational

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College track & field team took part in the Muhlenberg Invitational on Thursday and Friday at Scotty Wood Stadium.

Sophomore Giada Smith (Springtown, Pa./Palisades) paced the Falcons in the 3000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line fourth in 13:26.01, marking a program record, besting her own school record by 40 seconds and moving into first place in the conference at the time of competition. Graduate student MacKayla Reed (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area Senior) followed with a time of 14:44.20 and senior Shayla Simek (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) clocked a time of 15:50.15.

In the 100-meter dash, junior Krishana Brooks (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) finished sixth in a time of 14.85 seconds.

Senior Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) was the lone representative for Cedar Crest in the 1500-meter run, registering a time of 6:51.69.

The Falcons had three in the 400-meter dash with first-year Laila Stevenson (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) taking fifth (1:03.41) to lead the way. Sophomore Mel Val (Tracy City, Tenn./St. Andrew's Sewanee) followed in ninth, recording a time of 1:07.15. Sophomore Emily Matoushek (Waymart, Pa./Forest City Regional) finished 11th (1:14.58).

Sophomore Erica Cook (Deming, Wash./Mount Baker) was the lone participant for the Falcons in the 800-meter run, registering a time of 2:48.67.

Cedar Crest had a pair in the 200-meter dash with Stevenson clocking a time of 28.18 seconds followed by Brooks in 29.82 seconds.

First-year Kaitlyn Cohen (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) set a program record in the pole vault with a mark of 2.30 meters, placing eighth.

Senior Alana Connor (Manassas, Va./Charles J. Colgan) guided the Falcons in the hammer throw, finishing 11th with a mark of 35.05 meters. Senior Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) came in 14th with a throw of 30.73 meters. First-year Caterina Catizone (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) threw for a mark of 25.38 meters.

Cedar Crest had a trio of competitors in the javelin with Bozen taking third with a throw of 31.94 meters, beating out multiple Division I athletes. Catizone came in seventh with a mark of 25.34 meters while sophomore Symarah Drey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) registered a throw of 23.86 meters.

Bozen recorded her second top-five finish of the day, placing fourth in the discus with a mark of 33.59 meters, once again beating out multiple Division I athletes. Connor took eighth, throwing 29.88 meters. Catizone finished 11th with a mark of 26.35 meters.  Drey was the last competitor for the Falcons in the event, throwing 21.53 meters.

Connor was one of two Cedar Crest student-athletes in the shot put, placing eighth with a throw of 9.35 meters. Catizone took ninth (9.17 meters).

Cedar Crest will return to action at the Bill Butler Invitational hosted by West Chester University on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11.
