Elizabeth “Betsy” Bauer-Lenhart, a 2006 graduate, was a four-year member of the volleyball squad, Bauer earned a spot on the All-PAC (Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) Second Team during her junior and senior seasons as a hitter. Bauer currently holds the top spot in the Cedar Crest Volleyball Record Book for Solo Blocks in a season and a career, as well as Total Blocks in a season and career Total Blocks. Bauer also sits in fourth overall in Career Kills for the Falcons.
Bauer graduated with a degree in Psychology and went on to work for Lehigh Valley Hospital as a Mental Health Technician in the Behavioral Health units. It wasn’t long before she discovered an interest in nursing. She was awarded a scholarship through Lehigh Valley and returned to Cedar Crest to pursue her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN). It was an accelerated program over two years where Bauer continued to work full-time and attended class and clinical at night and on weekends. It was the undying support of her family that kept her from completely breaking down and becoming a patient on the unit she worked.
While earning her BSN, she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honor society. She was also selected by her class with the extreme honor to be the speaker at the pinning ceremony, an event where new nurses take their Hippocratic Oath and are welcomed to the community of those who have gone before them. She graduated Cum Laude in December of 2011 and as a stipulation of her scholarship was able to choose any position within the Lehigh Valley Healthcare Network and made a huge move to the ICU where there was much variety in order to become a well-rounded, capable nurse.
During her time in the ICU, many personal life events took place. She got engaged in December of 2012, purchased a home in May of 2013, and got married in October of 2015. She and her new husband went on the trip of the lifetime to Alaska to celebrate their honeymoon in the summer of 2016. They reside in Kutztown on a beautiful piece of property that abuts 500 acres of protected farmland and woods. They love their neighbors who consist of deer, fox, raccoons, opossum, turkey and a variety of other delightful woodland creatures. They have two rescue dogs and a very grumpy shelter cat that they love unconditionally.
While continuing her tenure in the ICU, she developed a strong spirituality and obtained her ordination. She performs weddings, baptisms and blessings, including her best friend’s marriage where she was the officiant as well as a bridesmaid. Bauer became involved with a company that sells non-lethal self-defense items where a portion of the proceeds are used to help rescue children and women from human trafficking. Bauer then moved onto an out-patient surgery center where she currently works and just celebrated her 13th anniversary with the network this past August. She is currently finishing up Phase 2 of a PHRN program where she is leading calls with Cetronia Ambulance Corp and hopes to continue her career as a flight nurse. She also just completed a huge bucket list item where she went skydiving and had one of the best experiences of her life.
