Jacqueline (Jake) J. Sham was first hired by Cedar Crest College in 1977 as a lacrosse coach at the young age of twenty-three. In 1981, she led the team to win a PAIAW Division III conference title after winning nine consecutive games and was named Coach of the Year. The team then continued their streak and came back to win conference titles again in 1982 and 1983. Jake went on to coach basketball and volleyball for Cedar Crest and was a true asset to the success of our athletic programs.

Jake was later named Director of Athletics while she continued to coach and teach courses in health and physical education. She was a visionary whose hard work transformed the athletic department, supporting student-athletes as a coach, mentor and friend. Moving our teams into the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC), Jake made changes that would propel our teams into a more competitive conference, appealing to strong recruits and improving upon the retention of student-athletes. Her commitment and dedication to Cedar Crest College Athletics is invaluable and we strive to continue her vision of excellence. Jake left Cedar Crest College in 1995 to pursue her love of teaching, but her commitment and dedication to the success of our programs is instrumental still. Jake remains a great friend and ally and we are honored to induct her into the 2014 Hall of Fame.
