Box Score Jersey City, NJ
In the second game of the New Jersey City Tri-Match, the Falcons Volleyball team; rolling from their 3-0 win over the host NJCU would keep the trend going against Staten Island.
Set one was all Cedar Crest as
Chloe Ciraco (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) and
Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) laid the ground work for a 25-6 win.
Set two would see Ciraco and Clayton team back up for another dominating set as they would get teammates
Jessica Lobien (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton),
Denise Castillo (New Rochelle/New Rochelle High School), and Freshman standout
Celina Danish (Allentown, PA/Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts). Â The Falcons would be up as much as 11 points before wrapping up set two 25-13.
Set three the Falcons were feeling it, one set away from running their winning streak to three and one set away from sweeping a Tri-Match. Â Set three would start off like any other as Lobien led the team to a quick 5-0 lead. Â But costly errors would provide Staten Island a chance to storm back and tie the set at 6-6. Â
Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), no stranger to high pressure situations would take point for the Falcons, leading then to another 5-0 run as they ran their lead 11-6. Â But a night of solid volleyball and no rest would take it's toll on the Falcons starters as they found themselves behind for the first time all night 16-15. Â
After a timeout by Coach Mary Rotimi the Falcons would go on a 2-1 run tying set three at 17 a piece but Staten Island refused to go down without a fight as they would again run the lead 22-20. Â Rotimi, looking for her first Tri-Match sweep of her coaching career at Cedar Crest, called another timeout and took the players aside. Â This time the TO worked and the Falcons would go on a quick 5-1 run to seal the set and their three game winning streak.
Kiersten Collins (Forest City, PA/Forest City Regional) continued her dominating night finishing with nine kills and one assist. Â Lobien and Wehry would each finish with eight kills a piece and Danish would collect 27 of the teams 31 assists.
The Falcons are now off until the 14th when they travel to Brooklyn, NY for the NYU-Poly Tournament.
