September 6, 2014 – Langhorne, PA Competing in the Cairn University Highlander XC 6K Invitational which is the host site of the 2014 CSAC XC Championship later this season on November 1, junior Falcon runner,
Brittany Cunfer (Summit Hill, PA/Panther Valley), again found herself among the leaders with a 15
th place finish out of 163 participants representing 18 institutions. What makes the performance even more amazing was that the weather conditions were unbearable for runners and spectators. When the gun sounded at eleven o'clock, the temperature was 87 degrees, on its way to 92, with a humidity level that was stifling, to say the least.
Cunfer's time of 25:24 was 1:12 shy of her 2
nd place pace set at last week's DelVal Invitational under ideal running conditions. Cunfer raced out to an early lead to begin the race, but her pace slowed as the challenging terrain and weather took its toll. Among the top 15, eight were from CSAC institutions, twenty seconds separated 2
nd and 8
th places, Cunfer finished in the 8th spot.
Hannah Hastings of Bryn Mawr College placed first overall with a time of 23:30.
As a team, the Falcons finished 15
th out of 18 teams, 8
th out of 9 CSAC teams. Sophomore,
Genelle Davenport (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) placed 111
th at 32:32; 33 seconds off of her previous pace. Freshman
Victoria Eppright (Drexel Hill, PA/Delaware County Christian), made huge strides in her second career collegiate meet cutting 1:25 off of her DelVal time to finish today at 150
th with 42:09. Junior
Kayleigh Keggan (Blairstown, NJ/Belvidere) come in just behind Eppright in 154
th at 43:13 in her first meet of the season and Freshman
Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) completed her first collegiate meet in 158
th at 47:05.
Next week the Falcons host the Mule-Falcon Classic 5K Invitational on the campus of Cedar Crest College and Cedar Creek Park.
