Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College volleyball team defeated non-conference Lehman College, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Lees Gym by scores of 25-27, 25-13, 25-13 and 25-14.
After battling point-for-point in the first set the Falcons wasted no time setting the pace the rest of the game. With the score 4-3 in favor of the home team the Falcons wasted no time to make a statement going on an eight point run, extending the lead, 13-3. More than half of the points were credit to freshman setter
Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) who scored four point on service aces, with the addition of one kill. Â The final five points of the set were a combination of
Crowder and sophomore middle hitter
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany).
Crowder set
Hill up to earn the serve back, Crowder made the most of it finding the perfect spot on the court for a service ace.
Crowder and
Hill linked up again for the set, and kill which led to another service ace for
Crowder. The final point was on another
Hill attack this time being set up by sophomore setter/middle hitter
Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy).
Cedar Crest opened the scoring up in the third set with a six point run to take a 10-4 lead, including two service aces by
Hill, and two kills, one by freshman middle/rightside hitter
Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) the other by freshman outside hitter
Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area). The teams battled for points, both getting a string of two or three attacks, but the Falcons held the lead. With the final five points in sight,
Hill had back-to-back kills while
Crowder had back-to-back service aces for a 23-12 lead.
Hill gained the serve back with a kill while the final point of the game was on a service ace by senior outside hitter
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City).
The final set the Black and Yellow jumped out to a 10-1 lead over the Lightening. In that series,
Hill earned two kills,
Crowder earned a kill and five service aces while
Schnaubelt tacked on one kill. Later, the Falcons went on another six point run, this time capitalizing on errors and
Hill would add one kill and two service aces for a 16-3 lead. The teams would trade off between points, and errors with
Elrod scoring the final point for Cedar Crest.
The next game for the volleyball team is on Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. in Lees as the team returns back to Colonial States Athletic Conference action against Cabrini University.
