Track & Field Posts Two Top-Five Finishes at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. –
The Cedar Crest College track & field team competed at the Ursinus Outdoor Invitational on Saturday. There was no team scoring for the meet. 

"We had a great day on the track, with a lot of improvement from our sprints crew," stated Head Coach Alec Duncan. "The weather was all over the place throughout the day and the whole team did a great job of responding to the changing elements."

The team saw multiple personal records set during the event, including two school records and two top-five finishes.

Junior Saige Sterner (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) finished the 1500-meter run with a time of 6:17.73, which is a personal record. Classmate Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) also participated in the event and completed the run 5:37.08.

Senior Brittney Dunleavy (Auburn, Pa./Blue Mountain) delivered personal best times in the 100-and-400-meter dash events. She ran the 100-meter in 14.40 seconds and 1:12.65 in the 400-meters. Her time in the 100 meters is now a program record. Freshmen Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman ) and Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa. /Philadelphia E&T) also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing with personal bests of 14.69 and 15.60 seconds, respectively.

Junior Emily Kern (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) set a new personal and school record in the 400-meter dash, completing the event in 1:09.84.

Moving into the field events, the Falcons saw two top-five finishes and one personal record.

Freshman Tiffany Kuras (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) had another strong showing in the javelin event, throwing for a mark of 33.41 meters, which put her third.

Junior Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) landed fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 32.14 meters.

To close out the field events, freshman Heaven Bethea (Boynton Beach, Fla./South Tech Academy ) recorded a personal best in the shot put with a mark 4.48 meters.

"Tiff and Kelsee continue to compete well and find themselves in the finals of their events, which is great experience for them to have once we get to championship season," concluded Duncan.   

Cedar Crest will return to competition on on Thursday, April 14 at the Mid-Week Twilight Meet hosted by Gwynedd Mercy University.
