Swimming Falls to Kutztown in Season Opener

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College swimming team lost to Kutztown University in a 136-92 final on Saturday afternoon at the Keystone Natatorium to open its 2023-24 season.

The meet began with the 200-yard medley relay and the team of senior Megan Fiedler (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior), first-year Rylie Heusner (Scranton, Pa./Holy Cross), first-year Camila Gil (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and graduate student Rachael Alulis (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) took second place with a time of 2:05.86.

Fiedler was the lone participant in the 1000-yard freestyle and she finished third with a time of 12:49.64.

Gil took first place in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 2:04.53. Classmate Courtney Marks (New Ringgold, Pa./Blue Mountain) finished fifth with a time of 3:00.0.

First-year Erin Walsh (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) competed in the 100-yard backstroke for the Falcons and finished fourth with a time of 1:53.67.

Heusner and junior Taylor Davis (Wilmington, Del./Newark) competed in the 100-yard breaststroke for Cedar Crest. Heusner took third (1:17.48) followed by Davis in fifth (1:27.35).

Gil won her second event of the day, taking first in the 200-yard butterfly as she touched in 2:32.9. Alulis was fourth in the event (2:55.62).

The Falcons took fourth through sixth in the 50-yard freestyle. Heusner clocked a time of 28.95, Davis recorded a time of 31.36, followed by Marks (36.16).

Cedar Crest had three competitors in the 100-yard freestyle. Fiedler was third (1:03.52). Walsh followed with a time of 1:23.43 while first-year Jessica Keogh (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) clocked a time of 1:45.05.

Marks was the lone swimmer in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in a time of 3:32.89.

Heusner and Alulis took part in the 200-yard breaststroke. Heusner took fourth with a time of 2:58.21 followed by Alulis in fifth a time of 3:11.93.

Fiedler won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:44.94 to capture nine points for the Falcons.

Gil captured her third first place win on the day, placing first in the 100-yard butterfly, touching in 1:07.23.

Alulis won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:47.70. Davis followed in second and finished in 2:57.58.

Cedar Crest took the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Fiedler, Alulis, Heusner, and Gil finished first with a time of 1:56.16.

Cedar Crest (0-1 overall) will host East Stroudsburg University in its home opener on Saturday, October 21 at 1:00 p.m.
