Track & Field Participates in Muhlenberg Invitational; Schouppe Sets Program Record in Hammer Throw

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College track & field team made the short trip to compete in the Muhlenberg Invitational starting on Saturday morning.

"We are continuing to see progression and improvement each week," said Head Track & Field Coach Jaryd Flank. "It has me and the rest of the coaching staff not only excited for the remainder of the season, but the future of the program."

In the high jump, first-year Olivia Horninger (Friedens, Pa./Northern Lehigh) finished tied for 11th with a mark of 1.37 meters.

Senior Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) led the Falcons with a tenth-place finish in the shot put, registering a mark of 10.19 meters. First-year Isabella Bozen tallied a mark of 7.51 meters followed by sophomore Heaven Bethea (Boynton Beach, Fla./South Tech Academy), who recorded a throw of 5.08 meters.

Schouppe paced Cedar Crest with her second top-10 finish on the day, this time in the discus throw. She took eighth with a mark of 32.77 meters. Bozen also competed in the event and registered a distance of 25.16 meters.

Cedar Crest had three student-athletes in the javelin event. First-year Sadie Trubilla (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) took tenth place with a throw of 29.38 meters. Classmate Camryn Snyder (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) finished 15th with a mark of 23.15 meters.

In the final field event featuring the Falcons, Schouppe recorded a program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 36.37 meters, besting her own record set back at the 2021 CSAC Championships of 35.08 meters. Her mark was good enough to place tenth. Bethea joined Schouppe in the event and had a mark of 17.81 meters.

Transitioning to the track events, sophomore Jonquil Loeffelholz (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) registered a time of 22:34.43 in the 5,000-meter run.

Junior Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) became the first Cedar Crest student-athlete to participate in a steeplechase event. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Kelly finished 12th in a time of 17:19.08.

First-year Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) led the Falcons in the 100-yard dash, crossing the finish line in 13.92 seconds. First-year Olivia Wanner (Lyons, Pa./Kutztown Area) (14.41 seconds), Horninger (14.71 seconds), and sophomore Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T) (14.98) also took part in the event.

In the 400-meter dash, four Falcons finished in a row. First-year Gaudy Reinoso (Jersey City, N.J./Lincoln) ran the event in 1:16.42. Sabir followed with a time of 1:22.70. Seniors Carolina Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside Senior) and Joslyn Schwieterman (Portland, Maine/Baxter Academy) registered respective times of 1:35.63 and 1:44.48.

Sophomore Jess Simins (Phillipsburg, N.J./Warren Tech) was the only Cedar Crest student-athlete in the 800-meter run. She completed the run in 2:53.79.

The Falcons had four competitors in the 200-meter dash. Everett ran the event in 29.56 seconds. Wanner followed one spot behind in 29.56 seconds while sophomore Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) ran a time of 31.19 seconds. Reinoso recorded a time of 32.54 seconds.

Cedar Crest will have a week off and return to the action on Saturday, April 15 at the Bill Butler Invitational, hosted by West Chester University.
