WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College track & field team had its final regular season tune-up before the conference championships at the Monarch Open, hosted by King's College (Pa.) at the Betzler Outdoor Track on Saturday.
In the field events, senior
Kelsee Schouppe (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) took fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 37.42 meters. Sophomore
Heaven Bethea (Boynton Beach, Fla./South Tech Academy) also competed in the event and registered a throw of 16.98 meters.
The Falcons landed three student-athletes in the top ten of the javelin event. First-year
Sadie Trubilla (Coaldale, Pa./Panther Valley) finished fifth with a throw of 29.55 meters. Classmates
Camryn Snyder (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) followed in seventh and eighth, respectively. Snyder recorded a mark of 26.26 meters while Bozen recorded a distance of 25.50 meters.
Schouppe had another strong showing, this time in the discus throw, earning another fifth-place finish with a throw of 34.17 meters. Bozen tallied a distance of 29.95 meters to land seventh. Snyder also took part in the event, registering a mark of 16.96 meters.
Transitioning to the track, the team of sophomore
Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman), first-year
Olivia Wanner (Lyons, Pa./Kutztown Area), sophomore
Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T), and first-year
Ellise Everett (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) took fifth place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 56.80 seconds.
Sophomore
Jonquil Loeffelholz (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) was the only Falcon in the 1500-meter run. She took 12
th place and crossed the finish line in 5:52.12.
Cedar Crest had four participants in the 100-meter dash prelims. Everett was 12
th with a time of 13.99 seconds. Wanner followed in 13
th, clocking a time of 14.13 seconds. Riley was 19
th, crossing the line in 14.48 seconds, while senior
Joslyn Schwieterman (Portland, Maine/Baxter Academy) finished in 19.29 seconds.
Sophomore
Jess Simins (Phillipsburg, N.J./Warren Tech) paced the Falcons in the 400-meter dash, taking tenth place in a time of 1:14.46. Junior
Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) finished 13
th, clocking a time of 1:17.65, followed by
Carolina Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside Senior) and Schwieterman with times of 1:29.68 and 1:41.70, respectively.
Cedar Crest had three in the 100-meter hurdles. First-year
Olivia Horninger (Friedens, Pa./Northern Lehigh) finished eighth with a time of 19.88 meters, followed by first-year
Gaudy Reinoso (Jersey City, N.J./Lincoln) and Sabir with respective times of 20.68 and 20.85 seconds.
Loeffelholz was back on the track for the 800-meter run and took 14
th place, crossing the line in 2:58.18.
The Falcons placed two in the top seven of the 400-meter hurdles. Reinoso was sixth (1:27.51), while Sabir was seventh (1:36.83).
Cedar Crest had a pair of runners in the 200-meter dash. Everett finished 12
th, clocking a time of 28.84 seconds, while Wanner crossed the line in 29.79 seconds.
The team of Wanner, Reinoso, Kelly, and Simins finished second in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 5:11.35.
Heading back into the field events, Schouppe finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 9.84 meters. Bozen took 11
th with a distance of 8.24 meters while Schwieterman (6.27 meters) and Bethea (5.10 meters) rounded out the Falcons in the event.
Cedar Crest had two participants score in the high jump. Everett and Horninger each had a mark of 1.31 meters.
Cedar Crest will now gear up for the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship Meet, which is set to take place May 6-7 at Gallaudet University.
